| Since 1995, the scenic "Surf Line" has hosted main line commuter service between San Diego and Oceanside, California. Formerly owned by Sante Fe, the line's current owner is the San Diego Northern Railway.
Its passenger equipment is lettered Coaster, short for Coast Express Rail. Some of the stations along the route were built by San Diego Northern, while others remain from Sante Fe's passenger days.
Hop aboard with Pentrex and travel south, enjoying countless views of the beautiful Pacific Ocean as the track runs atop bluffs overlooking the waves.
You'll see many Amtrak passenger trains with both Amfleet coaches and the unusual bilevel "California Cars." Burlington Northern Sante Fe freight puts in an occasional appearance, and there are many scenes of Coaster runs with their unique MK F40PHM-2C locomotives.
Coaster trains operate in push-pull mode, and you're invited to ride with the engineer in both the control car and the locomotive.
You'll also see the bright red LRVs of San Diego Trolley pausing to drop off and pick up passengers. Scenic vistas, unique equipment, and plenty of onboard and trackside action are waiting for you in Coaster.
