Kansas City Power & Light operates 4 coal-fired plants to supply electric power to Kansas and Missouri in the Kansas City region. Of these, the La Cygne Generating Station, located on the Kansas City Southern south of Kansas City, is the largest with two units producing a total of 1,362-megawatts. La Cygne is jointly owned with Kansas Gas & Electric and burned 6.05 million tons of Powder River coal in 2004. To supply this large amount of coal there are 495 KCLX Bethgon Coalporters carrying La Cygne markings.
